Through this piece I have represented all the anxieties I have felt through high school. The growing responsibility of scoring well accompanied by the prospect of moving to a new country in pursuit of higher studies, combined with limited time often left me with a feeling of being trapped within my own reality.
The subject in the charcoal sketch depicts a woman trying to fend off her own intrusive thoughts. The foetal position symbolises her defensiveness , whereas the hands trying to grab a hold of her represent the various feelings of unease. The black and white colour scheme of the piece further emphasises feelings of hopelessness
